Research Interests

My research interests are applying decision analysis methods (including probabilistic forecasting) to model the epidemiology and treatment of chronic, rare diseases, such as hemophilia and primary immune deficiency diseases.

Past Research

I am evaluating probabilistic forecasts for the long-term global demand for biological products to treat hemophilia A in a capacity expansion decision by comparing 100 country forecasts to actual observed results 20 years later.

Experience With Industry (And how It informs what I teach)

I was an Air Force officer (15 years) and spent 10 years working as an external and internal decision analysis consultant at Applied Decision Analysis, Bayer Biological Products, and GlaxoSmithKline. What I teach is what I did while I was in the biologics and pharmaceutical industries.

Why students may want to study risk and analytics

Most decisions faced in business involve future events that require an analysis of risk and uncertainty. Years ago, a marketing colleague mentioned that decision analysis made her market research actionable. Decision analysis provides tools and methods to obtain decision-relevant information from subject matter experts and leverage available data to make informed decisions that are logically consistent with what the decision maker can do, what the decision maker knows or doesn’t know, and what is important to the decision maker.
